Cavity nesting songbirds will be returning soon to use nest boxes for raising chicks. James Fischer, WMCC Research Director, will introduce how to install and maintain nest boxes. He will also introduce you to the birds that use nest boxes, as well as their nesting materials and construction.

Nature’s Nursery Series
Join us on the first Thursday of each month for hour-long programs designed just for your young nature lovers. Every session will include a story, an encounter with a live animal, and an activity or craft. Bring your kids out to White Memorial for a jam-packed hour of hands-on learning. Parents, we ask that you stay for the duration of the program. Meet in the A.B. Ceder Room. 4-5pm. Advanced registration is required. Members: $8/child per session or $25/whole series, Non-Members: $12/child per session or $45/whole series.

Why do some animal babies look just like their parents while others look like completely different organisms all together? Animals are born and grow in different ways. During this program, we will compare and contrast the growth and life cycles of several local animal species, including those that go through the magic of metamorphosis. A couple live examples will be included!

Vernal pools are a critical habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals, yet they only have water for a short period of time each season. Carly Borken will introduce you to the animals associated with vernal pools. She will also answer some important questions surrounding the mystery of vernal pools. How do the animals that need water live these habitats? Some animals choose these habitats for breeding. Why would they choose these habitats over other places that have consistent water? Find out the answers to these questions and others.
