Grades 1-3: Tuesdays in October (the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th)
After-School Adventures: Virtual Nature Detectives
Join Education Director Carrie Szwed for a virtual investigation of nature’s greatest mysteries. Participants will form a team of detectives who will meet over Zoom to solve clues and answer questions related to local plants and animals. Lessons will include both computer time and outdoor, active time! 4-5pm. Register on whitememorialcc.org, at which point you will receive an email with the Zoom link(s). Members: $5/session or $15/whole series, Non-Members: $8/session or $25/whole series.

Contemplative Yoga with Judith-Ehrman-Shapiro

Contemplative Yoga (Previously Yoga in The Garden) is a gentle all-level yoga class provided online through Zoom. The class meets on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30. This class cycles through each chakra, focusing on anatomy and energetic benefits, combining vinyasa, yin, and restorative yoga forms. Students can attend the classes in any sequence. Poetry, music, and mudra assist the student in focusing on class intention. This class encourages stress reduction and efficient breathing, while building strength, flexibility, and balance. No registration is required. Class is $10, paid on Venmo to @Judith-Ehrman-Shapiro. Please leave a note which says “White Memorial”, and $1 will to be donated to WMCC for each class. Other payment arrangements can be made by calling Judith at 860-309-9489.

Ash trees are a common yard tree throughout Northwest Connecticut.  They are valued the shade they cast over our homes in the summer, for growing in variety of soil conditions, and survive our cold winters.  The Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive insect that specifically targets and kills ash trees.  Property owners are now discovering that the ash trees they cherish are declining and dying at an alarming rate throughout Northwest Connecticut.  This program will introduce participants to what options are available to private property owners, including the advantages of hiring a state licensed arborist and as well as other options.  2:00 p.m. on ZOOM simulcast on Facebook Live!
