SUMMARY:Artistry in Nature with Colleen Harrak
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 2\, 2026 \nNot all who wander are lost—some are artists! Join us as we wander the trails with sketchbooks in hand. Along the way\, we’ll pause to draw whatever catches our eye: crooked trees\, tiny flowers\, interesting textures\, animal tracks\, or moments of quiet beauty. You don’t need to “know how to draw”—just bring curiosity. This program is about slowing down\, noticing the small things\, and letting nature be your guide. Sketching becomes a way to explore\, wonder\, and see the world a little differently. We will supply sketchbooks\, pencils\, and charcoal\, but feel free to bring any other supplies you wish. All experience levels are welcome. For Ages 10 and up. \n10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Meet in the A.B. Ceder Room. At times\, we may travel as a group in our 15-passenger van to White Memorials locations outside the Main Area. Advanced registration is required.  You can sign up by session or\, for a discounted rate\, the whole series. Other sessions take place on May 2 and June 13. Members: $20/person per session or $50/whole series\, Non-Members: $30/person per session or $80/whole series   \n\nRegister here: Artistry in Nature Registration

SUMMARY:Charles Darwin: History’s Most Famous Biologist with Stewart McPherson
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 2\, 2026 \nCharles Robert Darwin (1809-1882) transformed the way we understand the natural world with ideas that\, in his day\, were nothing short of revolutionary. \nHe and his fellow pioneers in the field of biology gave us insight into the fantastic diversity of life on Earth and its origins\, including our own as a species. \nJoin British Explorer and Darwin Scholar\, Stewart McPherson for a deep dive into the life and times of this astonishing man. \nIn 2025\, McPherson completed an epic two year journey following the path of the HMS Beagle on the Dutch schooner\, Oosterschelde with a group of young citizen scientists\, the next generation of conservationists. DARWIN200 followed Charles Darwin’s journey aboard HMS Beagle two centuries ago. \nThe schooner was used as a floating laboratory and media platform to harness the legacy of Charles Darwin’s passion for natural history to engage worldwide audiences and advance global conservation. \nIf you have ever been interested in Charles Darwin\, here is an extraordinary opportunity to hear his story from the ultimate Darwin Scholar! Reception in the Museum: 6pm\, Talk in the Ceder Room: 7:00 p.m.. \nPlease pre-register: Charles Darwin Registration \nFREE…donations will be accepted to help defray the Conservation Center’s programming expenses.
