SUMMARY:Ron & Joan Jones Memorial Hikes: Summer Saunter to Wheeler Hill & Old Camp Townshend
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 1\, 2026 \nPack up some water\, a hiking stick\, and bug spray and put on your favorite clamdiggers! Gerri Griswold leads a pleasant saunter up Wheeler Hill (behind the Campground Store) then over to the lovely trails of Old Camp Townshend along the shores of Bantam Lake. Townshend opened in 1940. By the end of the decade over 700 Girl Scouts visited the property. All-day adventures will take us not only to unique parts of White Memorial property\, but also offsite to natural areas throughout northwestern CT! Activities include hiking trails\, climbing mountains\, learning to identify wildlife\, collecting rocks\, investigating aquatic life\, exploring different ecosystems\, and more. \nMeet in the A.B. Ceder Room. Drop-off program. We cannot make exceptions to the stated age range. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. \nMembers: $180\, Non-members: $240. You must have a FAMILY membership to get the member rate on a children’s program\, which you can purchase at the time of registration. DESCRIPTION:August 29\, 2026 \nStep out for a visit to the White memorial Foundation’s newest trail! The White Oak Trail was created in  and made its first appearance on our new trail map. Wander this lovely short trail to visit its namesake. Today’s hikes are both along the Bantam River. After the White Oak Trail we’ll head to the Haight Parcel for our annual exploration of truly one of the lovliest hikes on our property. Wind your way through the old vineyard to the shore of Bantam River. Look out for ghost pipes and barred owls\, American Toads\, and Shag Bark Hickory Trees. These hikes cover approximately 2.5 miles of lightly sloping and flat terrain. 10:00 am\, Meet at the White Oak Trailhead\, at the end of Wells Run\, off of RT 118\, Litchfield.
