So many landscapes that we enjoy have been carved out by ice. Yosemite Valley in California and the Fjords of Iceland are just a couple examples. Connecticut itself is filled with evidence that glaciers once dominated the land.
But how do glaciers form and how do they cut and carve through the bedrock of mighty mountains? This session will reveal the mechanisms behind the force of glaciers and illustrate the many examples of the geography left behind.
Also, within the ice lies a beauty beyond comparison. For those of us that have seen glacial ice close-up, the color spectrum that radiates from the ice is awe inspiring! We will investigate the science behind the blue of glacial ice and compare some examples observed in Iceland and Patagonia. 3:00 p.m., ZOOM, Members: FREE, Non-Members: $10.00, Pre-registration is required.
