On August 17, 2017, Tom Alena was fortunate to witness a total solar eclipse in Greenville, South Carolina. It was the most incredible astronomical event he had ever observed! For over 2 minutes, the moon completely blocked the afternoon sun. For a moment in time, this place on earth aligned perfectly with our moon and sun, and gave a real-time glimpse into the scale of our solar system. Another total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024 and the path of totality will be very close to Connecticut.
This program will detail this coming event and explain the nature of both lunar and solar eclipses. We will demonstrate the moon’s orbit around earth and show why the phases of the moon occur. We’ll dive into the history of solar eclipses and their effect on people and nature around them. Importantly, we will discuss how to safely observe and beautifully photograph the eclipse. Join us and get ready to experience an event of a lifetime! 6:00 p.m, ZOOM, Members: Free, Non-Members: $10.00. Pre-register here: SOLAR ECLIPSES WITH TOM REGISTRATION Call 860-567-0857 or register online. A link to the presentation will be emailed to you on March 26.
