In 1807 a large meteorite fell in Weston, CT, interesting, among others, former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. In this talk we’ll discuss the history of meteorite falls and how ancient and modern peoples thought of rocks coming down from the sky. What’s in a meteorite? Where do they come from? This is an interactive talk, with examples of both meteor-rights and meteor-wrongs for participants to handle. No prior knowledge of astronomy is required – just curiosity.
Star parties at White Memorial are organized by the Litchfield Hills Amateur Astronomy Club. The talk will be given whether it’s clear or cloudy. Then, weather permitting, there will be star gazing at the observatory. You are welcome to bring a telescope or binoculars. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
