The workshop aims to educate outdoor explorers, especially young children, with essential knowledge and practices to protect themselves against tick bites and related diseases. This is an interactive workshop that will include fun games and props for helping participants learn to identify and assess the dangers and behaviors of various tick species. We plan to debunk common tick myths and provide practical knowledge on how to submit ticks for testing, how to dress safely, where ticks are most commonly present, and more. There is a lot of fear around ticks and tick-borne illness, but we aim to empower young explorers with education and strategies so that they may confidently explore nature safely! Connecticut based HYKER produces tick repellant socks, bandanas, shirts, and blankets. Merchadsise is available in White Memorial’s Gift shop and will be sold during the workshop through HYKER.
